FOG Design+Art 2026

Goodman Gallery debuts at FOG Design+Art in San Francisco as the only gallery from the African continent participating in the fair. Presented across Fort Mason’s Pier 2 and Pier 3, the gallery’s presentation engages FOG’s distinctive positioning at the intersection of 20th-century and contemporary art and design, fostering dialogue between local histories and global artistic practices.

FOG 2026 - - Viewing Room - Goodman Gallery

Goodman Gallery’s presentation brings together works from across its recent programme, spanning multiple disciplines and geographies, and features artists including Yinka Shonibare, Kapwani Kiwanga, Winston Branch, Ghada Amer, William Kentridge, Lindokuhle Sobekwa, and Cassi Namoda, among others. Goodman Gallery’s presence underscores the global scope of contemporary practice while foregrounding perspectives rooted in the Global South.

A key focus of Goodman’s presentation at FOG is the work of Hank Willis Thomas, whose practice maintains strong ties to San Francisco. Thomas is a graduate of the California College of the Arts, and the artist behind the city’s first permanent public sculpture Love Over Rules in Yerba Buena, with a new variation of this project to be presented by Goodman Gallery in Johannesburg in early 2026. Shown in the context of the United States’ 250th anniversary, his works interrogate national symbols, history, and identity – inviting viewers to confront the contradictions embedded within ideas of freedom and belonging.

The presentation is further contextualised by significant institutional milestones across the Bay Area and in other parts of the United States. Kiwanga’s inclusion follows her receipt of the Joan Miró Prize and her major forthcoming commission with the Studio Museum in Harlem. Kentridge’s operatic work The Great Yes, The Great No premiered at the Cal Performances at UC Berkley in Spring 2025, reinforcing the artist’s long-standing ties to the region.

Together, Goodman Gallery’s debut at FOG Design+Art offers a considered introduction to the gallery’s programme within a West Coast context – bringing internationally recognised practices into dialogue with local histories, institutions, and audiences, and affirming the fair as a platform for sustained cultural exchange.
